Nicolaisen received the following recognition:

Nicolaisen received an Academic Excellence Award as a first year student. This Academic Excellence Award is given to students on the Storm Lake campus whose cumulative GPA is 3.75 or greater, representing approximately the top 10% of each class. Nicolaisen was also inducted into the BVU Global Fellows Program, a competitive academic program designed to provide students with a global perspective of human environmental impact and creative methods at the forefront of sustainable development. The first-year students selected for this honor completed an essay competition and distinguished themselves as not only outstanding scholars, but also young people who are aware of the unique challenges and opportunities present within our global community. The 2016 BVU Global Fellows have accepted the responsibility of serving as campus advocates for international travel, globalism and sustainability, all of which will enrich their experiences as they become leaders in today's global environment.
