Christian Kladstrup Honored at Buena Vista University

2017 May 30

Christian Kladstrup , a biology major from Spencer , was honored at Buena Vista University's annual Student Recognition Dinner on April 29.

Kladstrup received the following recognition:

Kladstrup received an Academic Excellence Award as a third year student. This Academic Excellence Award is given to students on the Storm Lake campus whose cumulative GPA is 3.75 or greater, representing approximately the top 10% of each class.

Kladstrup received a Student Organization Leader award for his role in Science Club, one of more than 57 organizations available on campus. These leaders provide guidance and motivation to their clubs and attend campus-wide meetings to share knowledge and build skills. BVU's many active student organizations represent a wide variety of interests, social causes and disciplines.

Kladstrup was nominated for inclusion in Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities. Selection is based on outstanding scholastic, campus and community activities.

Kladstrup received the Stine Fellowship Award which is given annually to exceptional students to enhance their educational and professional development opportunities. Mr. Harry Stine, a longtime friend of the university, generously established this endowment in 2014 to promote creative opportunities for science students.

Kladstrup received the Clifford A. Rae Academic Achievement Award, an award given annually to BVU science and business majors. Eligible students are from Iowa or a contiguous state and must meet specific financial need qualifications. Students are invited to apply and compete, and winners are determined on the basis of grade-point average. Clifford Rae was a long-serving advisor to Dr. Harold Walter Siebens and Executive Director of the Siebens Family Foundation. This generous award can be used by the winners for approved academic purposes, such as student research, interim travel, internship accommodations, graduate school applications, certification examinations, or upon graduation, payment of student loans.

Kladstrup was elected Parliamentarian of the Student Senate by the student body to represent the student voice on campus committees, consider concerns of the student body and assign student organizations' financial allocations.

Kladstrup was awarded The Undergraduate Rural Medicine Education & Development Fund. Every year at BVU students have amazing opportunities to complete internships that help prepare them for their careers, do significant research in their discipline, and travel nationally and internationally. Many of our students awarded gift assistance to help assure they could pursue these opportunities. This support is made available through the generous contributions of alumni and friends.

Kladstrup was recognized for being a member of BVU's Honors Program, which encourages students to develop their academic talents beyond the regular curriculumt through specialized courses and an extensive research project.
