Elizabeth Kim from Fairmont, Minn. Honored at Buena Vista Unversity

2016 Jun 13

Elizabeth Kim, a senior biology and Spanish major from Fairmont, Minn. , was recently honored at Buena Vista University's student recognition event.

Kim received the following recognition:

Kim received an Academic Excellence Award as a third year student. This Academic Excellence Award is given to students on the Storm Lake campus whose cumulative GPA is 3.75 or greater, representing approximately the top 10% of each class. She received a Student Organization Leader award for her role in Sigma Delta Pi, one of more than 45 organizations available on campus. These leaders provide guidance and motivation to their clubs and attend campus-wide President's Council meetings to share knowledge and build skills. BVU's many active student organizations represent a wide variety of interests, social causes and disciplines. Kim was nominated for inclusion in Who's Who Among Colleges and University Students in America. Selection is based on academic achievements, campus leadership and faculty recommendations. She was awarded The William and Lavina Wesselink Student Development Fund. Every year at BVU students have amazing opportunities to complete internships that help prepare them for their careers, do significant research in their discipline, and travel nationally and internationally. Many of our students awarded gift assistance to help assure they could pursue these opportunities. This support is made available through the generous contributions of alumni and friends. She also received the Wesselink Award established by the late Dr. William Wesselink. The income from this gift is used to support an annual award to an outstanding student. The award seeks to recognize a Buena Vista University student's contribution to campus life in the broadest sense. On top of that, this year's BVU Parents of the Year are Hyun and Peggy Kim, nominated by Kim and her sister Emily Kim. The Parents of the Year award is given annually to parents who represent qualities so many of BVU's great parents embody, including support and dedication to their student's pursuits.
