Kyle Wiebers and BVU Media Students Receive Awards at ICMA Conference

2018 Feb 26

Buena Vista University's (BVU) student media organizations took home several awards and other honors at the 2018 Iowa College Media Association (ICMA) conference held earlier this month in Des Moines.

Kyle Wiebers , a senior psychology major from Holstein , and other students in BVU's campus media organizations - KBVU, the University Cable Network (UCN) and The Tack Online - received 30 awards in numerous categories. BVU digital media students were also the proud recipients of the coveted ICMA First Amendment Award and took home more sports broadcasting awards than any other university.

Wiebers was awarded:

Best Air Personality: Second place for KBVU, "BVU Breakfast Club with Kyle"

Best PSA: Honorable mention for KBVU, "Autism Stereotypes PSA"

"It's always gratifying to have the excellent media work BVU students are doing acknowledged through these kinds of recognitions, but one of the best parts of our ICMA participation is the chance for students to network with Iowa media professionals and other Iowa media students," said Jamii Claiborne, associate professor of digital media at BVU. "They come back energized by new ideas and new connections. Plus, they are able to experience a professional conference atmosphere and grow their professional skills."
