Michelle Clinesmith from Lake View Honored at Buena Vista Unversity

2016 Jun 13

Michelle Clinesmith, a senior biology major from Lake View , was recently honored at Buena Vista University's student recognition event.

Clinesmith received the following recognition:

Clinesmith received an Academic Excellence Award as a third year student. This Academic Excellence Award is given to students on the Storm Lake campus whose cumulative GPA is 3.75 or greater, representing approximately the top 10% of each class. She was inducted into Alpha Chi, a national honor society recognizing scholarship in all disciplines, promoting academic achievement and encouraging its members to continue their lives as scholars. Membership is restricted to ten percent of the senior class having a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or greater and five percent of the junior class having a cumulative grade point average of 3.65 or greater. She received the Clifford A. Rae Academic Achievement Award, an award given annually to Harold Walter Siebens School of Business and nine School of Science majors. Eligible students are from Iowa or a contiguous state and must meet specific financial need qualifications. Students are invited to apply and compete, and winners are determined on the basis of grade-point average. Clifford Rae was a long-serving advisor to Dr. Harold Walter Siebens and Executive Director of the Siebens Family Foundation. This generous award can be used by the winners for approved academic purposes, such as student research, interim travel, internship accommodations, graduate school applications, certification examinations, or upon graduation, payment of student loans. Clinesmith also received the Stine Fellowship Award which is given annually to exceptional science students to enhance their educational and professional development opportunities. Mr. Harry Stine, a longtime friend of the university, generously established this endowment in 2014 to promote creative opportunities for science students.
