Nadia Ecyomuhendo in BVU Theatre Musical Play "Iowa"

2016 Jan 26

Buena Vista University (BVU) Theatre is presenting the New Visions Series production of the musical play "Iowa" by Jenny Schwartz and Todd Almond Feb. 3-6 at 7:30 p.m. in Anderson Auditorium on the BVU campus.

Nadia Ecyomuhendo from Kigali, Rwanda is a member of the cast and is playing the role of Nancy Drew. Ecyomuhendo is a sophomore biology major at BVU.

"Iowa" is a musical play that follows Becca, a teenage girl, whose mother just got engaged to her Facebook friend, Roger. Becca struggles with the spontaneous move to Rogers home. She says goodbye to her bulimic best friend and beloved math teacher, and goes with her mother to Iowa, where the horizon stretches into infinity and things are not as they expected. The world of the play is a place of absurdity and wonder and is intended for mature audiences.

The New Visions Series enables a promising student director to stage a fully-realized main stage production. This opportunity adds to the undergraduate students skill set and other resources, which can open doors to graduate schools, internships and professional work.

Tickets for the play can be reserved online at www.bvu.edu/tickets or by calling the BVU Theatre Hotline at 712.749.2211. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens and may be picked up at the door before the performance.
