Nicole Boysen from Danbury to Appear in Buena Vista University Theatre Production of "Picnic"

2014 Oct 8

The Buena Vista University (BVU) theatre department is presenting William Inge's play, "Picnic" Nov. 5, 6, 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Anderson Auditorium in the Siebens Forum on the campus of Buena Vista University.

Nicole Boysen from Danbury is a member of the cast and is playing the role of Flo Owens. Boysen is a English major at BVU.

BVU's production of "Picnic" will be directed by Dr. Michael Whitlatch, professor of theatre, with technical direction by David Grant Walker, assistant professor of theatre, and costume coordination by Dr. Bethany Larson, associate professor of theatre.

"Picnic" takes place Labor Day weekend in a small Kansas town. A cocky vagrant comes into the lives of two families who share a common backyard and changes their lives. He breaks the heart of a young girl, encourages a spinster to marry and encourages a young woman to give up her rich boyfriend and run away with him. A winner of the 1953 Pulitzer Prize and the New York Critic's Circle Award, "Picnic" remains a moving piece that shows how longings and desires can shape a person's life and is a realistic examination of unfilled dreams and the conditions faced by many women in the 1950s.

Tickets for the play will be available beginning Oct. 27, and reservations can be made online at www.bvu.edu/tickets or by calling the BVU Theatre Hotline at 712.749.2211. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens and may be picked up at the door on the evening of the performance you plan to attend.
