Ryan Mellott from Westminster, Colorado presented at 2015 IMPACT National Conference

2015 Mar 17

Members of the Buena Vista University (BVU) Student MOVE organization (Student Mobilizing Outreach & Volunteer Efforts) attended and presented at the 2015 IMPACT National Conference, Feb. 19-22, hosted by the Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.

Ryan Mellott from Westminster, Colorado is a junior biology major at BVU and one of the members of Student MOVE who presented at the conference.

Their presentation, "Creating Community: The Role of Service Organizations in Shaping the Future" focused on how service organizations, like Student MOVE, can shape the future of civic engagement on college campuses and the communities they work with.

During the conference, the students attended other presentations, participated in service projects and networked with other students, non-profit agencies and graduate schools. They also attended keynote sessions that featured national speakers such as Wendy Spencer, CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service.

"By providing students with the opportunity to present at a national conference such as IMPACT, they not only learn the skills for successful presentations, they also get exposure to new ideas and programs and the opportunity to learn from people from all over the nation who share their interests," said Dr. Ashley Farmer-Hanson, assistant dean for student life and director of civic engagement at BVU. "This conference provided students with the opportunity to learn more about who they are and provided them with tools to be successful here on campus and beyond."
