Mackey received an Academic Excellence Award as a second year student. This Academic Excellence Award is given to students on the Storm Lake campus whose cumulative GPA is 3.75 or greater, representing approximately the top 10% of each class. She was inducted into Alpha Chi, a national honor society recognizing scholarship in all disciplines, promoting academic achievement and encouraging its members to continue their lives as scholars. Membership is restricted to ten percent of the senior class having a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or greater and five percent of the junior class having a cumulative grade point average of 3.65 or greater. Mackey was elected to the Student Senate by the student body to represent the student voice on campus committees, consider concerns of the student body and assign student organizations' financial allocations. Lastly, Mackey also received the J. Leslie Rollins Fellowship, established in honor of J. Leslie Rollins, a 1926 graduate of Buena Vista University. Rollins was an outstanding student at BVU, excelling inside and outside the classroom. The purpose of the J. Leslie Rollins Fellowship is to provide support for an off-campus internship for students with recognized potential for leadership and service. Rollins Fellows have distinguished themselves through their personal achievements. This award provides an opportunity for them to achieve a dream tied to their individual goals and academic aspirations.
