Area Students in Buena Vista University Theatre Production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Buena Vista University Theatre will present its production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee in April, according to the director, Dr. Bethany Larson, associate professor of theatre. In this musical aEUR" written by Rachel Sheinkin (book) and William Finn (music and lyrics) aEUR" spelling is only part of the journey about the challenges of growing up. The story centers on six pre-teens as they vie for the title of Putnam County Spelling Champion and the right to go to Washington D.C. for the National Spelling Bee. But on the way to the final round these kids learn about so much more than words and how they are spelled. "We laugh, we cry, we hope they win, and we cheer even when they lose," says Larson. "All this and a bit of audience participation make this a must-see theatrical event." Jerry Bertrand, assistant professor of music, is the music director for the play, and David Grant Walker, assistant professor of theatre, is scenic and lighting designer. Jeanette Hinkeldey is piano accompanist. Area students involved in the production include:
