Buena Vista University's (BVU) fourteenth annual Scholars Day was held Saturday, April 28. The event provided students from all disciplines an opportunity to present their best original research, academic posters, artistic creations, and performances to their peers, professors, and the public.

Two Buena Vista University students, Brenna Horkey and Katie Gruhn, presented their poster at the International Association for Social Work with Groups Virtual International Symposium (IASWG). The poster titled, Sharing Our Story: A Student Support Group at Buena Vista University, is about the project they completed for the course Social Work Practice II during the 2020 Fall Semester. The IASWG Symposium is a peer-reviewed professional conference venue.

BVU students Grace Meyers, Noah Becker, Tillie Heithoff, and Hannah Streitilmier, presented their research at the Western Social Science Association 2021 Virtual Conference on April 23. Their qualitative study, titled COVID-19 Causing Chaos in Collegiate Communities, was completed for SCWK 381 Methods of Social Research II during the 2020 Fall Semester. The WSSA is a peer-reviewed professional conference venue.

Ten Buena Vista University (BVU) biology students presented research at the 129th Iowa Academy of Science (IAS) Annual Meeting on April 21-22 at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Buena Vista University (BVU) student Derek Simonsen, a senior biology major from Quimby, was selected among only a handful of undergraduate students to present research at last month's Seventh Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) World Congress/Thirty Seventh SETAC North American Annual Meeting in Orlando, Fla.

Buena Vista University's twelfth annual Scholars Day was held Friday, April 22. The event provided students from all disciplines an opportunity to present their best presentations, original research, academic posters, artistic creations and performances to their peers, professors and the public.

Olivia Tuel, a senior biology major from Clarence, received a summer research placement in the lab of Dr. Pamela Padilla, associate professor and graduate research advisor at the University of North Texas.

Nine BVU students were selected to present research projects at the annual Midwestern Psychological Association conference in Chicago.

Emma Konkler, a junior chemistry and secondary education major from Audubon, has been selected for the National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates (NSF-REU) in chemistry at Montana State University.

Dong Wang, a sophomore chemistry major from Nemaha, has been selected for the University of South Dakota's National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates (NSF-REU) program in materials chemistry for the summer of 2016.

Elizabeth Kim, a senior biology and Spanish major from Fairmont, Minn., was awarded a National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduate Fellowship at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Two Buena Vista University students have been awarded stipends and 10-week summer internships at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., as part of the Mayo Clinic's Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program.

Colin Hansen, a junior business and computer science major from Winside, Neb., has been awarded a fellowship with the National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program at the City University of New York's (CUNY) College of Staten Island.

Two students were selected for the BVU School of Science Summer Research Program, supervised by Dr. Brian Lenzmeier, professor of biology.

Sarah Schlichte, a junior biology major from Templeton, was awarded a 10-week summer undergraduate research fellowship at the University of Iowa, along with a $3,750 stipend and housing provided in the University of Iowa dormitories.

Derek Simonsen is one of only 30 U.S. students to be awarded fellowship, which provides financial support for undergraduate study and an EPA facility internship, and plans to research emerging contaminants.
